The parish church of St.Mary was built in the late C12th, late C13th, early C14th, and has later restorations. The nave and chancel are Late Norman (c 1180), the south aisle was widened when the east end was made into a chantry chapel (post 1284), the north transept is of 1305, and the west tower is of 1781.
This cut-mark is above the lower string course on the west face of the south aisle, cut into one of the limestone quoins of the original width aisle at 1.1m above ground. It was last verified in 1958 at 121.7707m above Newlyn Datum.
