San Francisco Bay is one of two coastal salt works operations in the entire United States. The bay is ideal because of its long, shallow topography of the Bay's bottom, the clay soils, and the Mediterranean climate.

The Newark facility has salt intake ponds. The facility also has evaporation ponds. About 9,200 acres of the bay has evaporation ponds.

Also at the facility is crystallization and you can see salt stacks.

The whole facility is surrounded by fencing. You can see the pounds from Mowry Ave. To see the salt stack closer, you should go to Morton Ave.
