The Confederate States of America claimed the Arizona Territory below the 34th parallel as within its own border. The Territory even had representation in the CSA congress.

Phoenix Arizona sits just below the 34th parallel and this memorial serves to remember those Arizona Confederate soldiers that gave their lives during the civil war.

The memorial is representation of the full state of Arizona in stones. Below on the pedestal is a broken petrified log. One the pedestal itself are the words:

"A nation that forgets its past has no future."

It was dedicated in 1961 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy
