The Church Hill Grammar School was built 1889-90. The school was build during a transitional period for schools in Pawtucket. In the early 1880s schools were small woodframe buildings which were overcrowded and in poor condition. The Church Hill school replaced a smaller woodframe building constructed in 1841. The building was designed by the architectural firm William R. Walker & Son in a Queen Anne style.  The school was a modern facility incorporating  the advancements in technology and sanitation.  The building constructed of fireproof brick was well lit with banks of windows on one side of each classroom and had a modern ventilation and heating system.

The Church Hill Grammar School remained in service as a school until 1949 and then served as school administrave offices until 2006.  The building is currently vacant and not in used awaiting an adaptive reuse.

The former school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
