A geocache (GC91E4) led me to this botanical garden in Grapevine, Texas, north of D/FW International Airport. One of my favorites stops!

One of the most beautiful and serene places in Grapevine is the Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park in Grapevine. This 5 plus acre development began with a vision of Grapevine City Council member C. Shane Wilbanks and supported by all Council Members.
The master plan for the gardens was prepared by architect Oliver Windham and presented to the City Council in September of 1999. Construction of Phase 1 of the gardens began in May of 2000 and included trails, planting beds and the "Great Lawn".
The design of Phase 2 of the gardens began immediately after the development of Phase 1. Included in Phase 2 were the "Garden Court", pond, gazebo, performance stage, trails and lots of landscaping. Construction of Phase 2 began in February of 2001 with the installation of the drainage system by City staff. The contractor began construction in April of 2001 and the Grand Opening Ceremony was held on August 23rd.
Design is now complete on Phase 3 of the gardens and includes a fountain in the "Great Lawn" area of the gardens, expansion of the pond in the "Garden Court" area of the gardens, a multi-purpose pavilion and decorative fencing. Construction of Phase 3 will begin when funding is available.
One final note on the development of the Botanical Gardens is the addition of a new pond in October of 2002. This pond was constructed by Whiz-Q Stone of Ft. Worth as part of a "Build-A-Pond class. This pond is a wonderful addition to the gardens.
