In 1978, Sara was created by George Berone (of Berone Sculptues in Winnipeg) for the Glenboro and District Chamber of Commerce. The camel weighs over a ton and stands over 5 meters (17 feet) high. Sara looks north towards Spruce Woods Provincial Park which contains the 4 sq km Spirit Sands (aka Manitoba Desert).
