Votice – Gateway to Czech Siberia
Votice is a municipality and town in Benešov District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic.
"Czech Siberia" is the nickname of an area of hilly countryside only a few kilometers south of the capital city of Prague. The area is as cold as it would be located 200 meters higher than it is, because of the frequency of temperature inversions in winter.
The column was built in the first half of the 18th century as a thanks for the completion of a major epidemic of plague-Black Death (1713-1714).
