A commemoration plaque to the ancestors that helped create the town of Aberaeron as it stands. The formation of towns and some cities are hard to pin down in the united kingdom as many are re-founded on the same location by each tide of people that have been through the country. But Aberaeron is different, it has a modern founding in 1807 as a fall out of the Harbours act that encouraged trade between the United Kingdom and foreign countries.
Aberaeron celebrated its bicentenary in 2007 and along with a series of activities and celebrations in the community, this plaque was placed on a newly refurbished look out tower that lets you look around the area and the sea. More information here:- (

The text on the plaque reads:-
"As a memorial of goodwill to his fellow creatures
as an encouragement to the trade of this Harbour,
as means of preserving many valuable lives and
much property, this S W Pier was erected at the expense of
Alban Thomas Jones Gwynne Lord of the Manor of Aberaeron.
If was begun in 1807 and finished in 1809.
Lewis Davies, William Green, Edward Ellis and William Lewis
masons, under the direction of Mr John Wood mariner"
(Then in Welsh and English)
This stone, laid in the year 2007, renews the gratitude
of the people of Aberaeron for the labours
of he founders of our town.
