This building served as both a schoolhouse and Town Hall for Passaic Township.
A Morris County Historical marker outside the building indicates:
"Millington Schoolhouse #74
Built in early 19th century as one room school. Classes held continuously until 1926. Addition added 1910. Since 1928 used as Passaic Township Hall. Public school classes discontinued in 1933.
Morris County Heritage Commission"
The New Jersey classifications of towns, townships, boros and cities can be very confusing. Even though, this area is now the Township of Long Hill...the boro is called Millington.
This website has an extensive history of the building with additional (old) photos: (

The date of 1882 is the first known date that the school has been documented...but it's actual date of construction has been lost.
