The Collyer Monument was erected in 1890 to honor Samuel S. Collyer, Chief Engineer for the Pawtucket Fire Department. He was killed in the line of duty when the fire engine in which he was riding overturned while enroute to an alarm. The accident occurred July 27, 1884. The monument features a statue of Chief Colyer wearing his fireman's hat and overcoat, in his hand he holds a megaphone. On the base of the monument is a bronze relief depicting the accident scene. The base is inscribed:
