Catherine Granny Fraser, a widow, immigrated to Canada along with her eight children in 1908. She homesteaded the NE 12-51-20 W3rd in 1910. The quarter of land was sold to Canada Northern Railway in 1912 to become the present site of the Town of Turtleford.

Granny Fraser (Galbraith) was born in Campbeltown, County Argyle, Scotland, January 22, 1853. In 1872 she married Archibald Fraser, he died in 1903.
