The USPS in Manitou Springs was built in 1940 using locally cut Manitou Springs greenstone. (Eric Leonard, a professor of geology at Colorado College, suspected that the Manitou greenstone is glauconite, formed millions of years ago by the re-crystalization of worm excrement. At least three other buildings in Colorado Springs are made from the same stone, one of which is Ticknor Hall on the college campus. (
