This track, the Levada do Caldeirão Verde, one of the oldest (1796) and long levadas on the island, is extremely rich in its landscape surrounded by water falls, fauna and flora but part of this hike is done on very severe drops down on the one side but well protected with railings.
At a certain point, you will find the first of four tunnels which is short and contrasts with the second tunnel with 200 meters. A little afterwards, you will see the third tunnel, not so long as the previous one. Be careful, as this is a low tunnel and the ground is normally swampy. The fourth tunnel, smaller in its length, is 1 km far from Caldeirão Verde water fall. Note that Caldeirão Verde is located at the left of the Levada, and to reach there you just have to climb a few meters by the riverside from where the waters flow from the natural lake.
There's no way you could be wrong to get this waterfall.
You can park your car at Parque Florestal das Queimadas near Santanta (set your car GPS to the parking given coordinates) and from this way to the waterfall just follow the signs. Its quite easy.
Bring your camera, some water proof coat (you'll need it, trust me) and if you have a front light you'll appreciate it when it comes to cross the tunnels. Take also something to eat and water, after all you'll have a 6 hours hike (two ways). The return it's done on the same way.
On your way to Parque Florestal das Queimadas, you can find a supermarket where you can get something to eat and water. Remember that you'll be in the forest for 6 hours.
There's no way you can get lost, enjoy it.
Mind you safety, but do it. This is not a easy task, but do it.
