The Marine Memorial is flanked by two granite benches. The southwest bench has the following dedication to a Marine:

LOVING HUSBAND, FATHER, BROTHER, GRANDFATHER
This bench will give rest to the weary, just as "Duke's" work in Springfield
was the "wind beneath the wings of many people"
