The Royal Arsenal used to manufacture munitions for the British military. This building was one of two guard houses, built around 1815, that were adjacent to a quay where gun powder was unloaded and armaments shipped. The quay, or what remains, can still be see at the other side of the flood protection wall. A new pier has been built to handle fast ferry services in to central London. The building is unused, at present, but is maintained in good order and would make a good coffee shop for passengers using the fast ferry service.

Details about the two buildings can be found here: (visit link) See section 4.5.11.

This building was the one used by the officers of the guard.
