From plaque:

M114 Towed Howitzer, Medium, 155mm

The M114 towed howitzer entered Army service in 1941 as the M1 howitzer but its roots go back to the M1918 of World War One that, in turn, was based on the French M1917.  It has a split-trail carriage that can be opened into a "V" for stability.  About 4,800 M114s were built, and it continues to be used by the US Army.  A later version (the M114A1) has a slightly different carriage and most M114A1s have since been retrofitted with a longer 20-foot barrel (designated the M114A2).
