This tall, art-deco style, edifice was constructed in 1935 and closed in 1941. As a sewage vent it proved to be a costly failure (becoming known as "Dumas' Folly"), however, as a local landmark it has survived the test of time. During World War Two its height gave it a purpose as a secret radio broadcast tower.

The vent is 38m high, and visible across the suburb of Highgate, located to the immediate north of the CBD of the City of Perth. It is listed by the National Trust of Australia.
