The accident occurred in 20th kilometer of the Tua Line, shortly before arriving at the Brunheda station (and after the station of Tralhão). The composition left Mirandela at 9h37, and was heading to Foz Tua, the accident occurred around 10h45. The train carried 47 passengers, probably many of them tourists. A woman aged 47 died and 25 others were injured.

Nowadays the line is closed, because of the construction of a water dam. At the time there where a lot of expeculation about the interests in closing the line.
