A modified version of the Lockheed F-104 Starfighter, Canadair built 200 CL-90's under license from Lockheed. Known briefly as CF-111, it was re-designated as CF-104 and used by RCAF/Canadian Forces from March 1961 until February 1986.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was popularly dubbed 'a missile with a man in it' and the CF-104 was the fastest aircraft to serve in the RCAF, setting the speed record in May 1958 of 1,404.09 mph as well as the altitude record of 91,243 feet.
A total of 110 CF-104's were lost due to accidents earning the Starfighter the dubious nickname of "Widowmaker". The high accident rate wasn't due to any problem with the aircraft but more likely due to the low-level role.
The majority of the surviving planes were struck of strength in 1986 and sent to the Turkish Air Force. One source includes 104753 in that transfer but it was dedicated here on 14 Oct 1992.
