Founded in 1931, it has a collection of 22,000 plant species and cultivars, 10 exhibition greenhouses full of plants from around the world, some thirty thematic gardens, and teams of researchers and activities staff, the Montreal Botanical Garden ranks as one of the world's largest and most spectacular botanical gardens. The outdoor gardens are bare and covered with snow from about November until about April, but the greenhouses are open to visitors year round, hosting the annual Butterflies Go Free exhibit from February to April.
