The Byers Block is on the southeast side of Court Square located at 3 Elm Street. It is a small three storey building between the Chicopee Bank Building and the Court Square Building. It was constructed in 1835 in the Greek Revival style according to a design by architect Moses H. Bliss. It is significant because of its architecture and the important role it played in commerce during the 19th century.

Many significant persons has their offices in the Byers Block. These include:

George Ashmun - Speaker of the Massachusetts House and U.S. Congressman from 1845 - 1851

George Bancroft - Secretary of the Navy under president Polk, founder of the U.S. Naval Academy

Reuben Chapman - Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Supreme Court

Col. James T. Thompson's express delivery service office. A stop on the route between New York and Boston which was a forerunner to the Pony Express.
