Misty was foaled on Chincoteague Island in 1946 and was bought by famed children's author Marguerite Henry who based a series of children's book on the pony. This statue is one of two identical statues unveiled in 1997, the other on Chincoteague Island. Here Misty is being frisky with a chicken on one side of her and a duck taking flight on the other side. A time capsule to be opened in 2046, the 100th anniversary of Misty's foaling is nearby.
