Of the three that still exist in Wimbledon Village/Common.
This is the only one that is not used anymore, the ones on the Common still are.
This is now a flower bed.
A few words on this association (taken from Wikipedia):
The Metropolitan Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough Association was an association set up in London by Samuel Gurney an MP and philanthropist and Edward Thomas Wakefield, a barrister in 1859 to provide free drinking water. Originally called the Metropolitan Free Drinking Fountain Association it changed its name to include cattle troughs in 1867, to also support animal welfare.
Despite it not used for it's original purpose anymore it is a good example although taking pictures can be a bit “hairy”.
Be careful of the roads around here, it’s a busy junction.
The full address is:
Wimbledon Hill Road, Merton, Greater London SW19 4QF at Junction with Belvedere Grove.
Cross the road (carefully) and you will find a fine example of a different type of drinking fountain.
