This postcard features the Sunken Gardens lake that was in front of the school. The Sunken Gardens was part of the City Beautiful Movement (visit link) championed in Denver by Mayor Speer. The Sunken Gardens were filled in in the 1930s due to the polio scare. (This information came from the Sunken Gardens plaque at (visit link) ).

Information about West High School may be found at (visit link) and (visit link) . It is easiest to visit this location either during the weekend when school is closed and there is parking or by bicycle or walking the nearby Cherry Creek Recreation path. This park is not a good place to be in the evening/night due to illegal drug sales (the problem is being worked on by the Denver Police).
