Hotel Gruebisbalm opened in 1896 at the south slope of Mount Rigi at a height of 900 meters above sea level. It is located near the cog railway line, a one minute walk from the station Gruebisbalm. This or hiking are the only ways to get there. The old hotel had to close in 1971 and stayed abandoned for 21 years.

The new owners moved there in 1985 and carefully renovated the western part according to natural principles and reopened this part of the hotel in 1992 (The main building of the old hotel stays closed).

The hotel has six clean and frugal room. Toilets and showers are shared. No TVs, no phones. It has a large dining room at the ground floor with a lot of books and toys.

The food is excellent, all organic, usually vegetarian, and whenever possible locally, most of it even home grown.

The owner are very friendly and easily make you feel a part of the family.

It's a perfect place to relax a couple of days in a great and peaceful environment.

The mountain itself is a very popular tourist destination, with great views and many activities in all seasons.
