This is the point where the Niagara River completes its 35-mile journey from Lake Erie (elevation 571') to Lake Ontario (elevation 243'). About half of the elevation change of the river occurs at Niagara Falls, which has moved backwards toward Lake Erie a distance of about 6 miles over several thousand years.
The Niagara River serves as the border between Canada and The United States, and is home to several Hydroelectric power plants.
