Bass, catfish, sunfish, and crappie are reported as abundant in this river. On our visit we caught small black bass and saw some big gar swimming around. The bass were caught on a small white spinner bait.

Graham Cave State Park offers paved boat access to the river along with barbecue grills and picnic tables. The park also maintains the Loutre River trail, a publicly accessible hiking and mountain biking trail that runs adjacent to the river bank for about one-half mile.
