Forest Lawn is a district or neighborhood on the southeast side of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. This farming area was first settled about 1900. By 1952, tbe 3 small districts of Hubalta, Albert Park and Forest Lawn incorporated to form the new town called "Town of Forest Lawn", and in 1961, it dissolved and then was annexed by the City of Calgary.
History: 17 Ave SE is known locally as "International Avenue"and is a Business Revitalization Zone (BRZ) of Calgary, Alberta. The central location of the BRZ district is 17th Avenue S.E., and since being created in 1993, the area has since become a popular location for ethnic restaurants and shopping. It has begun to loose its former status as a a haven for crime and drugs, in part due to the beautification of the area with the addition of murals, a town clock, and this fountain, which brought customers to the shops on this street.
TIDBIT:
In 2006, the district of Forest Lawn and neighboring district of Radisson Heights were the first communities in Canada to have their own Wi-Fi internet service (which was managed by WestNet Wireless).
