Rochester Castle built on the east side of the River Medway and was founded after the Norman conquest. During 1087 and 1089 and cost an impressive £60 to build, and over the centuries it has changed and been altered. The castle is said to be the best preserved castle of its type in the UK.
Entrance to the castle grounds if free, however, access to the Keep is under the control of Medway Council and English Heritage and a charge to visit is made.
