There were separate peripheral basins for horses, dogs and humans, but these have since been removed and the fountain no longer works. It became a grade II listed building on 29th January 1985. The English Heritage listing reference is 135686.
The fountain has a balustraded canopy and on each corner there is a gargoyle to take water from the roof.
