Byron Minnesota is along the Dakota Minnesota and Eastern mainline. It was purchased in 1986 from the Chicago Northwestern and runs from Winona Minnesota west to Rapid City South Dakota.
In September of 2007 the DM&E was sold to Canadian Pacific who soon thereafter began an ambitious rail replacement and upgrade program. Ancient rail (some sections dating to 1919) was replaced with continuous welded rail along Waseca Subdivision.
This DM&E switch tamper has been abandoned at this location ever since.
