The investors in the Clark Mine felt the small outcropping fissure of copper at this location was reason enough to build a mine. Unfortunately they were wrong. Incorporated on Dec. 19, 1853, it was worked periodically until it closed for good in 1901.
During that time it never earned enough to pay back the investors, let alone turn the handsome profit they expected. And today all that is left the waste dumps, the indentations that might have been some of the eight shafts that were sunk, and an interesting native stone chimney. There is a sign and parking within a few feet letting you know you have found this interesting bit of local history.
