The Clover Island Lighthouse is the first lighthouse built in the United States since 1962. The 62-foot concrete and steel tower became functional in February when its solar-powered beacon started flashing once every four seconds and now serves as a navigational aid to boaters on the Columbia River, and is the newest icon for the city of Kennewick, Washington development improvement project.
There are only two categories a lighthouse can be placed into... Landlocked and Coastal. The Clover Island Lighthouse doesn't fit in either, for it is a Riverfront Lighthouse. But since it needs to be in a category, the best of the two would be Coastal.
