I guess this picture is supposed to represent Ma Boyle, the original owner of this oyster bar, but I think it’s unlikely that anyone really knows what she looked like, or even if she really existed.

Although these days oysters are considered to be a luxury, in Victorian times pickled oysters were a regular food of the poor.

The bar is situated at the back of Tower Buildings adjacent to The Parish Church of Liverpool, St. Nicholas and opposite the world famous Liver Buildings.
