Velký Ostrý (1 293m) leží na hranicním hrbetu mezi Ceskem a Nemeckem. Bývá oznacován za jednu z nejkrásnejších hor Šumavy. /// Grosser Osser (1 293 m) lies on the Czech-German border and is presented as one of the most beautiful mountains in Sumava.

Hora Ostrý je vlastne dvouvrcholový suk. Velký Ostrý je se svými 1 293 m vyšším z jeho vrcholu.

Rozeklané skalnaté špice Malého a Velkého Ostrého vytvárí impozantní horskou scenérii. Ostrý tak bývá oznacován za jednu z nejkrásnejších hor Šumavy.
Ceši Ostrému láskyplne ríkají "prsa Matky Boží", Nemci jej zase nazývají Matterhornem Šumavy.

Sedlo, které oddeluje vrcholy Velkého a Malého Ostrého, se nazývá Vlcí propast. Najdeme v nem kapli a srub horské služby.
Podle legend zde žil myslivec, který byl inspirací pro Carostrelce, romantickou operu Karla Marii von Webbera.

Skalnatý vrchol Velkého Ostrého leží na hranicním hrbetu mezi Ceskem a Nemeckem. Nejvyšší bod je na skále, která leží na Nemecké strane hranice.
Na vrcholovém skalisku je umístený mohutný kríž.

Za dobré viditelnosti se z Ostrého otevírají nádherné výhledy na hreben Velkého Javoru, Ceský les,
masiv Hohen Bogen (je neprehlédnutelný, nebot na nem stojí dve obrí
veže vojenského odposlechového strediska z dob studené války) a západní cást Šumavy.

V sousedství vrcholového skaliska stojí na nemecké strane hranice útulná turistická chata. Bývá otevrena jen v hlavní sezone.
V chate se platí eury, ceny se nijak nevymykají nemeckým zvyklostem (na prehnané vysokohorské prirážky tu zapomente).

Z nemecké strany vedou na vrchol Ostrého turistické trasy z Lamu a Lohbergu. Z Ceské strany vede na vrchol modrá znacka z Hamru. Napojit se na ni mužete i z cervené znacky vedoucí kolem Cerného jezera.
Obtížnejší (ale krásnejší) cesta na Ostrý vede po neznacené stezce klikatící se podél státní hranice.

The saddle between peaks of Osser is called Wolf´s
chasm. In this saddle is chapel and the hut of the mountain patrol.
Old
legend says that there lived a hunter who inspired Webber´s romantic opera
„Der Freischütz“.

Rocky summit of the Grosser Osser lies on the border ridge between the Czech
Republic and Germany.

In good visibility we can admire magnificent views of Grosser Arber,
Bohemian Forest, Hohenbogen (with the two towers of the army eavesdropping
base) and the western parts od the Sumava.

On the German side of the border we can visit the homely tourist cottage.
This pub is usually open
only in summer season.

If
you want to visit the summit, you can use hiking routes from Lam and Lohberg
(GER). Blue trail from Hamry (CZ) also leads to the peak.
More difficult (and also more
beautiful) route leads along the
border. Be
careful - This
way isn´t marked.
