This multiple element memorial complements the Maine State Vietnam War Memorial, WM7C7P, that is located at the state capitol in Augusta, Maine. The granite wall of this memorial contains the names of the 339 Maine men who lost their lives in the war. Other elements of the memorial are a pedestal mounted UH1H Huey Helicopter and a M60A1 Main Battle tank.
The founder of the museum, Galen Cole with the help of his son, Gary Cole, found Maine residents Glen and Diane Hines who were commissioned to create a 3 person sculpture of a wounded soldier being assisted by another soldier and a nurse. The figure on the left side of the sculpture was modeled in the image of Eric Wardwell, a childhood friend of Gary Cole, Lance Corporal, United States Marine Corps, who was killed in action in the war on September 4, 1967.
