The city and province of Mukdahan lie in north eastern Thailand, on the Mekong River, abutting Laos. One of the main tourist attractions of the city is the Mudkahan Tower, a 65m tall tower, constructed in 1996 in honour the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne of the King of Thailand.

The tower contains a museum, cultural displays, a lookout point, and a set of bells. These bells are located on the 5th and penultimate level of the tower, directly below a Buddhist shrine. Visitors, who pay the entry fee, are welcome to pay their respects by ringing the bells. A pleasant Buddhist custom.
