The school's fist name was Infantry College of Todelo in 1850. In 1875 it was relocated in the Castle of Toledo after a brief temporary move to Madrid. In 1880 it was renamed General Military Academy. It was destroyed twice: in 1887 by a fire and during the Spanish Civil War. In October 1939 under the military dictatorship the military academy was moved to Zaragoza but in 1941 construction of the current building began and it opened its doors to the 1948-49 class. In 1974 the general academy merged with the infantry school (Military Applications' School) and the Military Engineering Academy.
