Adventure begins by turning north at traffic light on Highway US58 onto VA724, then proceeding to end of roadway entering Thomas Walker Civic Park. Park in grassy area by bathrooms. Trailhead is behind the covered pavilion.
The 8.5 mile loop hike consists of 3.6 mile Ewing Trail to east on Ridge Trail to spur trail to Sand Cave. Back and further east along Ridge Trail to White Rocks overlook (reached by climbing up a creavice). Back west to White Rocks Trail which is a short cut back down to Ewing Trail and your vehicle. Minimum hiking time with short lunch and breaks is 4.5 hours. Ewing Trail has a bunch of switchbacks to get up 1700' elevation gain.
Open year around. Views from White Rocks are impressive any day, but suggest that fall leaf season would be especially colorful. Sand Cave was a cool respite at lunch from the hot hike.
