An FBI agent with Sioux background is sent to an Indian reservation in South Dakota to help with a murder investigation, where he has to come to terms with his heritage. Based on actual occurrences of the 1970s. Val Kilmer and Sam Shepard used the Redwood Motel in Wasta, South Dakota as their field headquarters in the film.
