A slow moving courtroom drama concerning the poisoning of a blind husband by his wife. Mrs Paradine is accused of murdering her blind husband. Barrister Anthony Keane is hired to defend her and becomes infatuated with her. His infatuation leads him to believe that she is innocent and blinds him to the realities of the case.

Keane takes it upon himself to investigate the dead man’s valet Andre Latour. He travels to the Lake District to investigate the murder scene and investigate Latour. Mrs Paradine warns Keane not to pursue the theory that Latour may have killed Mr Paradine, but Keane ignores her wishes. After fierce cross examination in court Latour kills himself. When Keane calls Mrs Paradine as a defence witness she is so distraught by Latour’s death that she breaks down and confesses to murdering her husband to be with Latour.

In 1947 there was a railway connecting Cockermouth to Penrith, via Keswick. One of the stations was at Braithwaite. The director Hitchcock used the station to introduce Peck to the Lake District. As a bonus, Hitchcock made his trade mark brief appearance leaving the station behind Peck. In the 1960s the station closed and later became a private house. Today the exit door is no longer visible, but the platform and the buildings can be seen. The film clip was taken with the camera to the East of the station. The now shot had to be taken from the West of the station, that being the only direction accessible. The distinctive station architecture is still visible though.
