The Beadle County Humane Society was established to address the needs of animal welfare and promote responsible pet ownership. Funding for the organization comes from city and county support for animal control, impound and adoption fees, and donations.
The organization is governed by a volunteer board of directors. Among the goals of the Humane Society is to educate people on issues of responsible pet ownership. Of primary concern is the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.
The Beadle County Humane Society has a low-cost spay and neuter program available to the public and encourages pet owners to contact them for more information. This particular program is for dogs that weigh at least 45 pounds.
Citizens of Huron that are pet owners must be licensed yearly in order for pets live legally in the City of Huron. Licenses can be obtained at the shelter or by mail. The fees are as follows: Dogs altered $4.00, Dogs unaltered $8.00, Cats altered $3.00, Cats unaltered $6.00.
People should have their animals licensed as soon as possible. By having your animal licensed, animals can be returned to their rightful owners and also gives accurate numbers to foundations for funding purposes. If you are interested in fostering an animal, please contact the shelter.
