Spencer Bernard - Rush Springs, OK - Grave of a Famous Person on Waymarking.com

Spencer Bernard, the 11th Lt. Governor of Oklahoma, is buried in Rush Springs Cemetery on the east side of Jeff Davis Park. He was a lifelong resident of Rush Springs.

This beautiful headstone is located on the south side of the cemetery. A black granite base reads BERNARD in six inch high letters. To either side of this name is the "brand" of Bernard's ranch, Rush Creek Ranch (RRC).

The headstone consists of a black granite cube on the left and a smaller black post on the right. Suspended between these is a red granite image of the State of Oklahoma. This is inscribed: SPENCER THOMAS Feb. 5, 1915 Mar 9, 2001 / VIVIAN OPAL (DORMAN) Apr 11, 1915 Feb 1, 2009.

The larger black cube has a beautifully detailed aerial-view etching of Bernard's Rush Creek Ranch. Besides being Lt. Governor of Oklahoma, Spencer Bernard was a peanut farmer, and his Rush Creek Ranch was well known in this area.
