The small village of Shernborne lies within the royal estate of Sandringham. The sign is tucked away behind a roadside hedge directly opposite the small church of SS Peter & Paul. The present version shows the old Lord of the manor Sir Thomas De Shernborne fully suited in armour. Possibly off to battle, whilst his wife Johanna (et Jamona in French on the sign) stands outside their manor praying for his safe return.
The Shernborne family lived in the manor for around six centuries up to the time of Cromwell. Part of the old manor surrounded by a moat still stands as a farmhouse a little to the west of the village.
