Embedded in the sidewalk in front of a statue of Horace Greeley in City Hall Park in New York City, an engraved paver reads:

"During the 1999 restoration of
City Hall Park, archaeological
excavations uncovered burials
in this area believed to have
been associated with a shelter
and workhouse for the poor
known as the First Almshouse
(1736-1797) located where City Hall
now stands."
