You can get all the way out to the light but once the concrete breakwater ends it is more of a challenge to reach it. The easy way is by boat. Do not attempt the journey out to the light when the lake is rough and waves are crashing over the breakwater.
On your way out there you can find a few U.S. Benchmarks on the breakwater.
"Presque Isle Harbor Light
Located at the end of a rugged stone breakwater at Marquette’s Presque Isle Park is the red beacon that still guides ships day and night into the railroad ore docks. A monument near the breakwater carries the following message “The awesome beauty of Lake Superior’s waves have their dark and tragic side. The tremendous force of the waves and the frigid water can overpower even the strongest swimmers”.
Travel Instructions:
To reach Presque Isle Park from the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse, continue north on Lakeshore Blvd. for 2.8 miles. The road will become Peter White Drive as you enter the park, and the foot of the breakwater will be on your right.
