There are actually two chimneys that stand on the Fenske Lake Group campsite. One is located just off the parking lot at the end of the driveway (N 47 59.927; W 091 54.991), and the other overlooks the lake at the central part of the campsite (N 47 59.884; W 091 54.991)
The chimneys were part of the mess hall that was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the late ‘30’s. In the ‘40’s the land was purchased by the Northern Lakes Girl Scout Council and used for their camp until the 1960’s. It now belongs to the U.S. Forest Service and used as a group camp; the main campground is below on the other side of the boat launch.
