Bronze plaque on the front of the Courthouse reads:
TO HONOR AND COMMEMORATE
THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR SOLDIERS
BURIED IN ATHENS COUNTY, OHIO
The names of the 64 soldiers are listed on the plaque which was dedicated on April 28, 1938. The plaque was placed by the Nabby Lee Ames Chapter, D.A.R. and the Ewings Chapter S.A.R..
A nearby plaque honors the first settlers from the New England states in the very historic Ohio county. While the Revolutionary War plaque is partially hidden from view of the people walking by on the sidewalk by a tree, the main entrance to the courthouse has been closed, causing visitors use the lower entrance located near the plaque.
