The following is taken from www.taylorsdream.com:

Fort Wayne’s newest playground was welcomed on Friday by children of all ages and abilities, numerous local dignitaries and, of course, its inspiration.

The city officially opened Taylor’s Dream, the state’s first Boundless Playground, named after 14-year-old Taylor Reuille, who first presented the concept to city leaders nearly four years ago.

A huge crowd turned out for the park’s grand opening, including many children in wheelchairs. One held a sign that read, “Thank You Taylor, Its Time To Play, Yeah.”

The 2-acre playground includes three pods designated for certain age groups, plus a central splash pad. It was designed by area children to offer amenities that can be used by people of all abilities.

Stacey and Lisa Colglazier of New Haven brought their 10-year-old son Noah to the event. Noah, who has cerebral palsy, can get out of his wheelchair with some assistance, Stacey Colglazier said, but the park is truly a gem.

“I think it’s a wonderful thing,” he said. “A lot of kids can’t get out of their chairs.”

Fred Leone, CEO of Boundless Playgrounds, said the organization will complete its 250th playground this fall, but Fort Wayne should be proud of the community effort to get this project complete.

“This is one of the best, most well-organized boundless playgrounds that we have seen,” he said. “I applaud you.”

Leone then hugged Taylor, as is his tradition with the person most responsible for bringing such an asset to a community.

Mayor Tom Henry thanked Taylor for her efforts, proclaimed Friday “Taylor’s Dream Day” and presented her with a plaque.

The project required the city parks department to raise $1.3 million, and it was able to raise even more, which is being placed in a maintenance fund for the playground. Parks director Al Moll said the vast majority of the money was raised outside city coffers, and finding donors was actually fairly easy because of the wonderful concept.

“It’s rare you get to play a role in something everyone buys into,” he said.

The playground is located in Kreager Park on Lake Avenue on the city’s east side. It will be open during normal park hours.
