The memorial has four female figures standing back to back each of the figures has a metaphorical meaning. The female figures represent: Learning (book and pen); Justice (sword and tow pillars); Plenty (fruit and grain); and Virtue (veiled maiden). Above the figures is a globe inscribed with the map of Illinois. The base of sculpture is inscribed:
